About Antara Institute of Health Sciences

Antara Institute of Health Sciences is a private institute in South 24 Parganas, West Bengal, established in 2016. Campusbells lists it under Medical. Approvals and accreditation: UGC.

In March 1971, a compassionate group of volunteers began working among refugees from the erstwhile East Pakistan, responding to the immense humanitarian and mental health needs of some of the city’s most vulnerable communities.

Recognising the urgent need for organised and sustained intervention, the Antara Society was founded on 13 September 1971. Soon thereafter, an Outpatient Clinic was established at the Janata Medical Service, Mar Thoma Church Centre, Kolkata, providing much-needed psychiatric care to those who otherwise had little or no access to such services.

The need for more intensive care soon became apparent, and the Antara Indoor Clinic was subsequently established at Picnic Garden, Kolkata in November, 1971. This marked an important step in Antara’s evolution, bringing together psychiatric treatment, residential care, and compassionate support for individuals living with mental health challenges, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds.
