Overview
The Assisi Central School is a central board of secondary education situated on the magnificent campus of Shanthi Nilaya farm in Bagambila village, 16 kilometres from Mangalore on the Derlakatte-Kotekar Road. Bagambila is a small village in Derlakatte, a fast-growing municipality that was formerly a green hamlet but now includes medical colleges, K. S. Hegde Medical College, Yenepoya Medical College, Fr. Muller's Homeopathic Medical College, and Kanachur Medical College, As a result of development and population growth, there are more religious houses of worship and skyscrapers. Mother Ernestine, the Superior General at the time, purchased 34 acres of property in 1979 and created the 'Shanthi Nilaya Convent.` A portion of this area is utilized to grow paddy, coconut, and areca. The Mangalore Province was entrusted with the management of the farm and monastery. Derlakatte town was expanding, and most buses on route to Mangalore were filled with students seeking education at the city`s prominent schools. Students on their way to the city were delayed for several hours on the Netravathi Bridge in Ullal, making it impossible for them to return home. The locals asked the Ursuline Franciscan Sisters to open a school in Deralkatte. Sr. Lenita D`Souza, the Provincial Superior of Mangalore Province, made a courageous move to aid people by establishing Assisi School in Bagambila.
