Overview
In the late 1960s, recognizing the educational needs of the people in and around Garhshankar, Hoshiarpur, Punjab, visionary leaders established the ‘Guru Nanak Academic Council’. This council aimed to commemorate the 500th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji while addressing the pressing need for higher education in the Kandi region, known for its semi-hilly terrain and economically weaker, rural communities. Subsequently, this council was renamed the Babbar Akali Memorial Khalsa College Society, Garhshankar. The foundation stone of Babbar Akali Memorial Khalsa College was laid by Sant Baba Fateh Singh Ji on February 19, 1969. The institution is affiliated with Panjab University, Chandigarh, and receives support from both the Punjab Government and the University Grants Commission (UGC). Over the years, the college has become a hub of not just academic excellence but also sports, cultural, and literary activities.
