Overview

From time immemorial, Balusseri, identified as 'Palicheri' by Herman Gundart, has been the abode of Sanskrit language and Vedic education. Patronised by the erstwhile Rajas of Kurumbranad, Balussery was famous for its 'Sala' or 'Chala', established for imparting vedic education in the early medieval period. It was at this place of historical and cultural importance that an institution known as ' Amaravani Vidyanilayam' was started in 1973 by some of the philanthropic citizens of this area under the leadership of Late Sri. O. Narayanan Master for imparting Sanskrit education. Late Sri. Adiparakkal Damodaran Nair has given the land for housing the Vidyapeetha buildings for free of cost. Calicut Adarsha Sanskrit Vidyapeetha came in to existence with effect from 1st September 1980 when the Government of India brought the graduate and Post Graduate section of Amaravanividyapnilayam under the scheme for the establishment of Adarsha Sanskrit Mahavidyalaya sponsored by the then Ministry of Education and Social Welfare, Government of India.
