The College was named after Jesus Christ, God’s son and the light of the world. The college was created on the educational vision of Blessed Kuriakose Elias Chavara, the founder of the Carmelites of Mary Immaculate, a religious order for men (CMI).

Blessed Chavara was a God-fearing man, a renowned educator, and a 19th-century seer. He was a true Karma Yogi, a man of selfless conduct, and he believed in Jnana Marga, the path of knowledge to salvation. Carmelites of Mary Immaculate (CMI), India’s first indigenous religious order with about 2000 members, serve mankind in pastoral, educational, and social spheres of activity, striving for the holistic development of society.
