Overview

The Government of Tamilnadu established Madurai Kamaraj University as a Statutory University in 1965. The University Grants Commission recognises and funds it, and it is a member of the Association of Indian Universities. NAAC has reaccredited it with a grade of A. This university`s Directorate of Distance Education was founded in 1971 and has around 1.20 lakh students. The University has been granted the designation of "University with Potential for Excellence" by the University Grants Commission. This designation has been given to 9 universities in the country thus far. Features of Madurai Kamaraj University`s Directorate of Distance Education Those who stopped their studies due to Semester/Non-Semester exemptions may continue using year and topic exemptions. Those who choose to pursue a second degree have the option to do so. Students with a three-year diploma from a polytechnic may enroll straight in the second year (LE). Spot admission is offered at all 64 MKU Academic Centers in Tamil Nadu, 132 MKU Academic Centers in other states, 20 MKU Academic Training Centers in other states, and 17 MKU Academic Centers in other countries. Academic and calendar year admissions are made twice a year. Face-to-face instruction for 56 hours for each student per year. Contact sessions are held on Saturdays and Sundays at chosen centers, in addition to printed course materials. The Tamil Nadu Government`s Department of Adi Dravidian and Harijan Welfare gives monthly scholarships to SC/ST students. Physically challenged students receive a full tuition fee waiver, while defense employees receive a half-price discount.
