Overview
The Department of Management Studies is the consequence of an idea that was first proposed in 1963 and has evolved over time. What began as a seed grew into a plant, and in 1974, IIT Delhi established an internal committee to examine the management department`s operations. An expert committee was established in 1975 to formally investigate the possibilities of launching this field in a more sustained manner. As a result, the School for System Studies established an M.Tech programme in "Management Systems" (subsequently renamed School for Systems and Management Studies). 1978 saw the birth of the Management Core Group and major contributions to full-time management training at IIT(D) were re-confirmed by an advisory committee of representatives from academia and industry. Since then there is no turning back.The School of Systems and Management Studies was renamed the Centre for Systems and Management Studies. The name was later changed to the Centre for Management Studies.
