Govt. College Nankhari is one of the nine degree colleges established by the Himachal Pradesh Government, as per order No. EDN-A-Ka(1)-1/2014 dated January 15, 2014. Located in the remote, snow-covered mid-mountain ranges of the Himalayas at an altitude of around 2500 meters, the college's coordinates are 31°18′16″N 77°35′21″E. Nankhari is situated 60 km from Rampur and 92.3 km from Shimla. Due to the challenging conditions, only a few students could previously afford to travel to Rampur or Shimla for higher education.

The establishment of this college in such a difficult terrain has not only prevented students from having to relocate but has also inspired underprivileged individuals to pursue their educational aspirations.
