Kartarpur is the birthplace of Dandi Swami Virjanand Saraswati, the great Guru of Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati, the founder of Arya Samaj. Dandi Swami Shri Guru Virjanand was a unique and supremely talented person. He was a true patriot from the core of his heart and a propagator of Vedic civilization and Sanskrit. He took revolutionary steps and presented a logical concept of Vedas and Arsha literature. His biggest contribution to the service of the nation was that he prepared a disciple like Rishi Dayanand who, as a Guru, devoted his entire life to the propagation of Vedic culture and Arsha literature. Kartarpur is located 16 km from Jalandhar on the Delhi-Jalandhar Amritsar main railway line and GT road. In the sacred memory of the great Guru Virjanand, a Gurukul named "Shri Guru Virjanand Gurukul" is functioning in Kartarpur since 1970.
