It began with departments in Sanskrit, Indian history, and various Indian languages, and quickly expanded through generous donations and community support. Despite challenges such as losing its Andheri premises during World War II, the Bhavan grew steadily, establishing institutes for Jain studies, Sanskrit, arts, science, music, and culture. A major milestone was the construction of its grand Central Home in Bombay in 1949, largely due to the efforts of Smt.

From modest beginnings, the Bhavan has evolved into a nationally respected centre for Indian culture and Indological research, guided by the vision and dedication of its founder and supporters.
