Overview

Lahoal is an industrial enclave, 12 Km away from Dibrugarh Town and surrounded by a large number of villages, tea gardens and paddy fields. Majority of common folk of this area basically depend upon agriculture and rest on daily wage for livelihood. Earlier, the students of this area used to go outside Lahoal for higher education, but it was hardly possible to for the students of far remote villages to study at the urban colleges due to their poor economic background and poor communication network. However, due to explosion and expansion of higher education towards the end of 20th century, the need to create a new atmosphere and institution was increasingly felt. The overwhelming situation also demanded to establish a full-fledged degree college at Lahoal. In the historic meeting held on the 24th November ,1994 at the premises of Lahoal L.P. school, on the great humble suggestion and advice from the eminent educationalists, the discussion was taken to open a college on the name of ''Lahowal College'' from the ensuing academic session. On 17th july,1995 college was formally inaugurated by the eminent educationalist Dr. B.N. Bhattacharya. Classes for H.S. 1st year Arts started on 17th July 1995 in the morning hours in Lahoal Girl's High School. Later, the classes were shifted to the newly built own building which was started in 1996. It was at the point of time that the generous donation from general public, different company's welfare schemes and non-government organisations, offered heartiestly towards the college helped to shape the present permanent building.
