Sri. M.S. Ramaiah, a noted entrepreneur and gifted visionary of Karnataka, recognized the deficiency in the public education system as early as 1960. Many aspirants, though brilliant and committed, invariably stood denied an opportunity to pursue further education due to the scarcity of professional colleges.

He made up his mind to fill this gap through a private educational system and serve society with his own resources. In order to pursue and fulfil his mission, he founded Gokula Education Foundation in the year 1962. He devoted his entire life to the cause of education, health, and the upliftment of society.

Thus was started Ramaiah College of Education in the year 2004 under Gokula Education Foundation. The college is situated in the campus "Jnana Gangothri" — a campus of all M.S. Ramaiah Institutions. The entire campus has its scholastic ambience fortified further by the presence of surrounding organizations of world repute like IISC, CPRI, NIAS, RRI, UAS, ISRO, BEL and HMT.
