Overview

Our principles are based on the Montessori method of education : Observation Individual liberty Preparation of the special environment Older children helping younger children to learn, a sense of community, builds self-esteem Self-correcting materials within the environment Children learn through their own errors to make the correct decision versus having the teacher point it out to them Prerana recognizes that each child learns at a different pace and allows that growth to take place. Therefore individual learning takes place within the environment. Here, we not only meet all of the above needs, but we also instill the attitude of `I can do it` which will ensure their future success in all aspects of their life. The advantage of the Montessori method over traditional education : Montessori emphasizes learning through all five senses, not just through listening, watching, or reading. Children in Montessori classes learn through work at their own, individual pace, choosing activities from various possibilities. Learning is an exciting process of discovery, leading to concentration, motivation, self-discipline, and a love for learning. Montessori classes have children in a mixed age group in which the older children spontaneously share their knowledge with the younger ones. Research studies show that Montessori children are better prepared for later life academically, socially, and emotionally. In addition to scoring well on standardized tests, Montessori children are ranked above average on such criteria as following directions, turning in work on time, listening attentively, using basic skills, showing responsibility, asking provocative questions, showing enthusiasm for learning, and adapting to new situations. The teachers here are all trained Montessorians under the Indian Montessori Training Center. Our main strength is largely intangible committed and dedicated teacher. The teacher here is referred as Directress who is meticulous observer of each child's behavior and growth. She assumes the role of the 'link' between the child and the material and also maintains the environment, including stimulating activities and removing possible obstacles.
