S.M.P.U. SCIENCE COLLEGE is situated in a picturesque surrounding on the top of the Mailarlinga Hill, now called Vidyagiri, at a height of 2511 feet above the sea level, on the outskirts of Dharwad, on Poona-Bangalore Highway . It is ideally located for all round development of the students. The temple Lord Mailarlinga on top of Vidyagiri hill, one can get a panoramic view of the surrounding. S.M.P.U. SCIENCE COLLEGE is one in the network of educational and Nation-Building Institutions on the Vidyagiri Campus, like Arts, Commerce and Science College, Polytechnic Institute, Lower and Higher Secondary Schools, Economics Research Institute and Law College at Hubli etc., of Janata Shikshana Samiti. The S.M.P.U. SCIENCE COLLEGE was originally started in 2000 by Late Shri. R. S. Hukkerikar with a mere strength of 100 students. It was started as a Science college but Commerce wing was added in the year 2010. The PU Board Examination results, year after year, have placed this college in a prominent position S.M.P.U. SCIENCE COLLEGE is accredited with 'A` grade by the NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation Council).
