The Diocese of Calicut was established on June 12, 1923, by the Jesuit missionaries, laid the foundations of modern education in the Malabar region. Their visionary approach set the stage for meeting the educational needs of the community.

The Diocese’s missionary and educational commitment has been unwavering, with a central focus on empowering and uplifting individuals across all societal spectrums, transcending barriers of caste, creed, and gender. As the new millennium dawned, recognizing the evolving times and the growing demand for higher education, the diocese recognized the imperative to venture into this domain.

In response to this need, Bishop Joseph Kalathiparambil, then the Bishop of Calicut, spearheaded the establishment of an Educational and Charitable Trust. This initiative marked the birth of St. Xavier’s Arts and Science College, embodying the aspirations for providing quality higher education to the community.
