The Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council -TTAADC was established to ensure the protection and advancement of Tiprasa rights in the state of Tripura, especially focusing on the socio-economic development of the Tiprasa communities. The history of TTAADC is intertwined with the struggle of the indigenous Tiprasa population to secure their rights, culture, and land amid changes in the demographic, political, and social fabric of the state.

Tripura, once a princely state ruled by the Manikya dynasty, was home to a predominantly indigenous Tiprasa population. However, after the integration of Tripura into India in 1949, the state experienced significant demographic changes, especially due to the influx of Bengali refugees following the Partition of India in 1947 and the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971. This demographic shift resulted in the indigenous tribes becoming a minority in their own land, causing fears of losing their cultural identity, land, and political power.
