Kanpur’s Uttar Pradesh Textile Technology Institute -UPTTI (formerly known as Government Central Textile Institute) is one of India’s leading textile institutes. In 1914, it got off to a shaky start. However, in 1937, the Govt. Central Textile Institute merged with two other major textile institutes, one in Kanpur and the other in Roorkee, to become the Department of Textile Technology, Thomson Civil Engineering College of Roorkee, where two diploma programs were launched.
