Overview

The vision of Vels Academy of Maritime Studies (School of Maritime Studies) is to provide high-quality training that prepares candidates to become Chief Engineering Officers in the shipping industry by innovating new technologies, achieving maximum efficiency through superior management, and innovating new technologies in accordance with the school`s strategic goals. The department aspires to be a model of excellence for higher education by providing high-quality education and rigorous training to students from a variety of areas, with many opportunities for all-around development. The School of Maritime Studies is located near Navalur on Tamilnadu`s IT Highway, off the ancient Mahabalipuram Road, in Thalambur, Chennai. Separate laboratories for Physics, Electrical Machinery, Control Systems, Power Electronics, Electronic devices, Electronic Communication, Digital devices, and Seamanship have been established on the wide campus, along with substantial buildings for lecture rooms, workshops, and the library. The School of Maritime Studies` two computer centres and a well-stocked library are among the best in the world. Boys and girls each have their own hostels at the School of Maritime Studies. Within the campus, there is also an exclusive Mess Block with separate eating halls. The School of Maritime Studies has its own bus fleet that connects the campus to various locations around Chennai.
