VCOVS emphasises on the improvement of visual heath and prioritizes patient care through leadership in education, research and service.

Till the mid 90’s, the eye care delivery system in India lacked adequately well qualified vision care professionals to cater to the primary eye care needs of the society. There were not enough optometrists to evaluate the status of the eye, render non-invasive diagnostic and remedial services and to scientifically deal with refractive errors, and prescribe glasses and contact lenses for the same. To fill this vacuum in the eye care delivery system the trustee members of Vidyasagar College of Optometry & Vision Science established the institution in 1998 with the unflinching commitment to churn out competent and responsible optometrists by providing the best possible education and clinical experience.

Cutting edge efficient education system, clinical care, visual rehabilitation, and robust community health initiatives have been the four pillars of the institution.
