The remote sensing and GIS (Geographic Information System) industry has witnessed significant growth in recent years, driven by advancements in satellite technology, increased availability of geospatial data and the rising demand for spatial analysis across sectors such as agriculture, urban planning, disaster management and environmental monitoring. Governments, private companies and international organizations are increasingly integrating geospatial technologies into decision-making processes. However, despite this rapid expansion, there remains a gap in the availability of skilled manpower. In order to address this gap, KSRSAC, in association with VTU, started the full-time M.Tech programme in Geo-informatics in 2004-05, which was subsequently approved by AICTE, New Delhi.
