Adherence to the National Curriculum Framework (NCF-2005). Education with the Fewest Consequences. The School’s History: INSTITUTIONS ARE CREATED IN MEN’S MINDSETS.

The events in Bengal, Banaras, Poona, and Lahore during the last decades of the nineteenth century revealed a deep national ferment across the country. Four young men studying in Madras in 1888-89 dreamed of an educational system that would combine traditional cultural values with modern scientific advancement. After much deliberation, they approached AMMEMBAL SUBBA RAO PAI, an advocate who had recently relocated to Madras following a successful career at the Mangalore Bar.

Subba Rao Pai was a dreamer, yet he kept his feet firmly planted on the earth. He carefully listened to the young men’s serious comments, examined their minds, and discovered the depth of their convictions, which coincided with his own views on the matter, and he pledged them his full support. He most likely intended to assist them financially, but Providence intervened when he developed a serious case of Gout, and doctors said the Madras environment was unsuitable for him.

Subba Rao Pai had returned to the Mangalore Bar. His line of work was right here. Early in 1891, the young graduates, Bantwal Padmanabha Baliga, Arkula Vasudeva Rao, Bantwal Vaman Baliga, and Udyavar Srinivas Rao, "with starlight in their eyes," set out to establish the school in collaboration with Subba Rao Pai.

They sought Srimad Varadendra Thirtha Swamiar of Sri Kashi Math Samstha’s blessings first at his Camp, then in Moodabidri. Swamiar gave his grace in the form of a ’RayasPatra.’ Adige Padmanabhaiya, who resigned as Headmaster of the Mangalore Municipal Middle School, was included in the group of four teachers.

CHS was founded in 1891. On June 30, 1891, the Canara High School opened its doors in a rented facility across from the Kodialbail Church. Among these five pioneers, Vasudeva Rao was the solely trained graduate, and he became the first Headmaster.

The school had an Emblem and a Motto, as befitting a spiritual venture. The insignia was a reclining Kamadhenu holding the Vedic Quotation Vidya Kamadugha ( Education fulfils all desires). The Upanishad’s Satyam vada, Dharmam Chara a mantra that emphasises life’s rectitude was picked as the motto.

The Emblem and Motto have served as a guiding star for us, and we have endeavoured to follow them. 1894, the Sister Institution, the Canara Girls School, opened its doors. It was formerly a free school supported in part by a two-pie income tax collected from council members, well-wishers, and the Canara High School personnel.

The ladies in the region likewise measured out a day’s worth of rice and set aside a fistful for Canara High School. The fund was known as the ’Mushti’ (Fistful) fund. 1895: Bhuvanedra Hall: This hall, named after Srimad Varadendra Thirtha’s Guru, was built in 1895 with the help of old pupils and under the direction of a foundation instructor Srinivas Rao.

5850/- and has near-perfect acoustics, has hosted numerous national leaders. In October 1927, Mahatma Gandhi visited to unveil the big image of Lokamanya Tilak. Another notable visitor was Rajendra Prasad, who was president of the Indian National Congress at the time.

The ’Proprietor Teachers’ operated on the basis of ideals, but they lacked any other assets. Subba Rao Pai and his pals chipped in to cover the costs. Looking back over the past 122 years, one is struck by the fact that the institution has expanded to 15 institutions, including an engineering college and the Canara Tennis Academy, as well as other schools and colleges with over 10,000 students and 600 employees.

The Institution has been nurtured, like a tree that relies on a constant supply of vitality from the earth, by Old Students and friends, generation after generation and, of course, by divine favour. On Kartheeka Ekadashi day, the school receives recognition from the Director of Education, Madras Presidency, after overcoming initial challenges. On December 13, 1891, the proprietors transferred the institution to a Managing Committee, as directed by the government.

A. Subba Rao Pai was the life and soul of the place. Ramachandraiyya, be nominated as the first President.

K P Rama Rao, Adiga Srinivasa Rao, and M Baba Pai were the other members of the committee. Subba Rao Pai starts his own bank, Canara Bank. The ’Canara Hindu Permanent Fund Lt, Mangalore’ was established on July 1, 1906.

The name was changed to Canara Bank Ltd in 1910. 1922, the CHS Association was founded. The Societies Registration Act of 1863 was used to register CHSA.
