Overview

Government Polytechnic Dhanbad, a premier technical institute in Jharkhand, was established in the year 1958 with the vision of imparting quality technical education to meet the growing industrial needs of the country. Initially, the institute started with three core engineering departments: Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Electrical Engineering, each with an intake capacity of 60 students. Over the years, the institution expanded its academic horizon by introducing a Diploma in Metallurgical Engineering in 1974 with an initial intake of 15, which was later increased to 25 and subsequently to 20 in the years 2006 and 2010 respectively. In response to the evolving landscape of the digital era, a Diploma in Computer Science Engineering was introduced in 2006 with an intake of 60 students. All the diploma programs offered by the institution are approved by AICTE, reflecting its commitment to maintaining quality education standards. Government Polytechnic Dhanbad continues to contribute significantly to the technical workforce of the region and beyond.
