Overview

Laxmi Memorial College of Physiotherapy was established by Laxmi Memorial Education Trust, Mangalore, in the year 1993, recognising the need for professionals in the field of Physiotherapy. In 22 years, the college has grown into a premier institution in the field of Physiotherapy in South India, and distinguished alumni of the college can be found across the globe. The physiotherapy department of AJIMS is run by the Laxmi Memorial College of Physiotherapy, and treats an average of a hundred in-patients and out- patients every day. Speciality clinical facilities available include the Paediatric rehabilitation unit and Upper extremity & hand rehabilitation unit commissioned in May 2015.The college runs a physiotherapy clinic in the college premises, and modern physiotherapy equipment is available for treatment and research purposes. Laxmi Memorial College of Physiotherapy has a well- stocked library which has a collection of 2932 physiotherapy and related books, including recent editions and prints as well as back volumes of nine core international journals of physiotherapy. Helinet (consortium of journals and books offered through RGUHS e-library) facilities are also available in the college library. Faculty can also use the library of AJ Institute of medical Sciences (AJIMS) which has a vast collection of books and journals in all the medical subjects. There are several undergraduate, post- graduate, and faculty research projects underway in the college. Periodic CME programs and faculty development programs, interdisciplinary in nature, are conducted in the college, to update the knowledge of the students and faculty. A number of community outreach programs are being run by the college in several centres like schools, old age homes, palliative care centres etc. These programs are in co- ordination with community medicine department of AJIMS and organisations such as Sarva Shiksha Abhiyaan.
