Mount Olive College was established in 1992. The college started its first academic session of Pre-University (Arts) in 1993 under North Eastern Hill University. The college is situated in Daklane, Kohima within the Sumi Baptist Church complex away from the hustle and bustle of the town.

The location provides a serene ambience for pursuits of academic knowledge. In 1994, the Degree (Arts) stream was introduced under Nagaland University while Degree Commerce started in 2013. The college is a developing and growing institution for higher education.

It obtained permanent affiliation to Nagaland University in 2005 and was recognized under 2(f) and 12 (B) of the UGC Act,1956 in 2006. The built-in area encompasses two five-storied buildings comprising well-furnished airy classrooms and an administrative office. The multipurpose hall serves as an auditorium as well as Indoor Stadium.

The library lends itself to a quiet ambience for both students and faculty. It is stocked with books, journals/magazines, and e-journal that is accessed through N-List.
