Overview
The National Institute of Design - NID Bhopal was founded as a consequence of various global and local influences. The late 1950s witnessed a convergence of these factors, and this period would be pivotal in Indian culture and education. This was a moment of reflection and reconstruction in a newly independent India. A young nation was confronted with the mammoth task of nation-building, which included integrating old customs with modern technology and ideas. The Modern Movement, Machine Aesthetics, and revolutionary innovation in the arts, architecture, and design were all happening at the same time. In many spheres of life, there was a desire for an Indian identity. The National Design Policy suggested establishing design institutes in other areas of India, similar to the NID in Ahmedabad, to encourage design programs. Four new NIDs have been established under this Action Plan in Madhya Pradesh (Bhopal), Andhra Pradesh (Amaravati), Assam (Jorhat), and Haryana (Kurukshetra).
